A day after receiving a threat from the US-based pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh on October 30 reaffirmed his commitment to promoting love and unity. In an Instagram video, he said in Punjabi, “Always talk about love. For me, this earth is one — my Guru says, ‘Ik Onkar.’ I was born from this soil and will one day return to it. There is only love from my side for everyone, even if someone envies or trolls me. I will always spread the message of love. I have always done so. I don’t care how anyone feels about it. Punjabi aa gaye oye.”

In the early hours of October 30, another suspected extortion-related shooting occurred at a residence near 56th Avenue and King George Boulevard in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Several people were inside the home, but no injuries were reported. Police arrested two suspects and believe the incident is linked to Indian gang activity.

Mansa Police on October 31 arrested two persons, identified as Gursahib Singh and Ramanpreet Singh, for their involvement in a firing incident at a pesticide shop on October 28, and recovered two pistols (.32 bore and .30 bore), nine cartridges, and six bullet shells from their possession, in Mansa district. During the arrest, Gursahib reportedly opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliation in which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg.

On October 31, Punjab Police, on day 244 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 59 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 77 drug smugglers and seized 3.3 kg of heroin, 5 kg of opium and 674 intoxicant pills from the possession of arrested persons, across the state.

Investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed that foreign-based operatives of the Khalistani terror group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) have been exploiting family ties and other vulnerabilities to recruit Punjabi youths into the outfit. “All the foreign handlers of BKI exploit family ties, lure youths with money, and involve them in anti-India activities,” a senior NIA official said on October 31. Over the past 10 months, at least a dozen such cases have surfaced. The revelation emerged during the probe into the BKI-orchestrated rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the Qila Lal Singh police station in Batala in Gurdaspur district. While 11 accused have been chargesheeted, the NIA is still tracking 11 others involved in the case.

On October 31, the banned Khalistani group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) staged a protest outside the Indian Consulate in Toronto, targeting Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand. The demonstration featured posters of Anand and former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, juxtaposed with a tableau depicting Gandhi’s assassination by her bodyguards Beant Singh and Satwant Singh. The display, organized on the 41st anniversary of Indira Gandhi’s assassination, showed the two assassins aiming guns at Gandhi and at a morphed image of Anand. Another poster highlighted Anand’s recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her bilateral visit to India earlier this month.

The Amritsar Commissionerate Police on October 31 arrested seven arms smugglers, including one juvenile, identified as Shamsher Singh alias Sima, Amandeep Singh alias Bobby, Balwinder Singh alias Kaka, Gurdev Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Harman Singh, and seized 15 sophisticated pistols — nine Glock 9mm and six .30-bore pistols — from their possession, in Amritsar district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the group was in contact with a Pakistan-based handler through social media and was involved in procuring and supplying illegal weapons across Punjab.

The Counter Intelligence wing in Bathinda, in a joint operation with the district police, on October 31 arrested three operatives of the banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), identified as Navjot Singh alias Jota, Gurpreet Singh, and Harjinder Singh, for writing pro-Khalistan slogans on school walls in Bhisiana and Mananwala villages of Bathinda district. Police recovered four mobile phones and a dongle from their possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused painted inflammatory slogans intended to incite public unrest and promote anti-national sentiments. Evidence also suggests they were receiving foreign funding for these activities. The slogans had appeared on the walls of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bhisiana on the night of October 26-27and another school in Mananwala on the night of October 19–20.
