Sikh organisations plan to mark the anniversary with a protest march from the theft site to Kotkapura in Faridkot district, where police had opened fire on demonstrators.

On June 1, the Sikh Federation United Kingdom (UK) issued a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, warning that it will begin a campaign to no-platform Labour Members of Parliament (MPs) starting August 1 unless a judge-led public inquiry is announced by the end of July into Britain’s role in the 1984 Operation Blue Star. The federation is demanding that the inquiry examine both UK involvement in the operation and anti-Sikh actions during Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s tenure. Backed by 455 gurdwaras and Sikh organisations, the federation also plans to lobby all MPs for support.

On June 1, Punjab Police, on day 92 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 83 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 113 drug smugglers and recovered 2.09 kg of heroin, 530 grams of opium, 32679 intoxicant pills and INR 1.8 lakhs drug money from their possession, across Punjab.

The Special Cell of Amritsar Rural Police on June 1 has dismantled a drugs and weapons smuggling network, and arrested three weapons smugglers identified as Fatehbir Singh alias Gandhi, Jagroop Singh alias Lalli and Ranjit Singh alias Kaka, and seized three Glock Gen 43 pistols (9mm), one Glock 26 Gen pistol (9mm), a .30 bore pistol, a PX5 .30 bore Pistol, a Zigana pistol, 10 live cartridges of .30 bore calibre, a motorcycle and three mobile phones from their possession, at a naka (checkpoint) near Brar-Kohala village link road in Ajnala in Amritsar district. Preliminary investigation revealed the accused were in contact with a primary suspect, Dugh of Manawala village in Amritsar district, and linked to Pakistan-based arms smuggler Rana.

According to sources, ahead of the 41st anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6, approximately 2,500 personnel from Punjab Armed Police and other district police forces are expected to be deployed for security in Amritsar, Amritsar district, with paramilitary forces on standby. Police have installed 62 checkpoints and are conducting round-the-clock patrolling to maintain peace.

On June 2, a key meeting between Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami ended in a deadlock over the June 6 Ghallughara (Operation Bluestar) commemoration, in Amritsar district. Damdami Taksal insisted that the SGPC limit its role to that of a facilitator or manager and strongly opposed officiating Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj delivering the traditional message to the Sikh community. The issue, which has garnered support from various Sikh organisations, is scheduled to be discussed again on June 4.

On June 2, a statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was defaced with black paint, stamped with 'SFJ', and draped in a Khalistan flag in Nangal village of Jalandhar district. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the Khalistani terrorist and chief of the banned outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), claimed responsibility for the act. This incident follows a similar one carried out on March 31, 2025, also at SFJ’s behest, and comes ahead of the anniversary of Operation Bluestar. A case has been registered, and police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved.
