He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has turned the Babri Masjid demolition into a political spectacle driven by anti-Muslim sentiment. Pannun appealed to Muslims to unite against what he described as Modi’s oppressive rule, asserting that after the creation of Khalistan, the Babri Masjid would be rebuilt at the site of the Ram Mandir. He further alleged that on November 25, Modi would promote extremist Hindutva inside the Ram Mandir, and urged Muslims to form a human chain in Ayodhya to oppose the move. Patnaik described the exercise as a ‘farcical referendum,’ noting that genuine referendums follow a defined process. He added that India has no objection to people expressing political demands, pointing out that even parties advocating Khalistan participate in India’s democratic system, including two Members of Parliament (MPs)—one of whom is the son of a man convicted in the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. ‘This is a referendum by Canadians, done in Canada. If you want to do it, do it,’ he remarked.
