According to reports, security agencies in Punjab are confronting an increasingly sophisticated cross-border threat as Pakistan-based smuggling networks have begun using high-capacity drones equipped with satellite communication and advanced navigation systems to transport drugs, arms, ammunition, and cash into the state. Unlike conventional GPS- or radio frequency-controlled drones, these satellite-linked platforms can reportedly evade many existing anti-drone measures that rely on jamming GPS or radio signals, enabling them to operate over longer distances. Investigators believe the drones are being used to deliver consignments of heroin, sophisticated weapons, ammunition, grenades, and cash at pre-designated locations in Punjab. Local operatives linked to smuggling and terror networks are then allegedly directed to retrieve the consignments using encrypted messaging applications and precise coordinates.
