Police on June 18 arrested Sher Shah, the prime suspect in the double murder of a Sikh caretaker couple who were shot dead at a gurdwara in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan on June 17. According to police, investigations have so far found no evidence linking the accused to any banned outfit, terrorist organisation, or organised network.

On June 18, Punjab Police, on day 474 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, arrested 70 drug smugglers, and seized 961 grams of heroin and INR 3500 in drug money from the possession of arrested persons, across the state.

On June 18, the 149th day of Punjab Police’s statewide “war on gangsters” (Gangstran Te Vaar) campaign—Operation Prahar— the police conducted 560 raids, arrested 333 persons and recovered seven weapons from their possession. Five proclaimed offenders (POs) were also arrested during the operation.

On June 19, the 150th day of Punjab Police’s statewide “war on gangsters” (Gangstran Te Vaar) campaign—Operation Prahar— the police conducted 558 raids, arrested 300 persons and recovered one weapon from their possession. Preventive action was taken against 118 individuals, while one person was verified and released after questioning. Eight proclaimed offenders (POs) were also arrested during the operation.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police, in a joint operation, on June 19 arrested an alleged cross-border smuggler, Rohan Khosla and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 assault rifle, 25 foreign-made pistols, 368 live cartridges, 48 magazines, and a USA-made bulletproof vest, near the International Border in the Ajnala-Ramdas sector of Amritsar district.. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was allegedly acting on the directions of an Australia-based associate who shared the weapon drop location through a social media application. According to BSF sources, intelligence inputs had indicated that the consignment would be collected from a drone-dropping zone and transported in a white car, prompting the deployment of multiple checkpoints and ambushes in the area.

Punjab Police has secured the deportation from Malaysia of two wanted operatives linked to the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), identified as Gurwinder Singh and Manjeet Singh, and the duo was apprehended by Punjab Police at IGI Airport in New Delhi upon arrival and subsequently brought to Punjab for further investigation. They are accused of targeting critical railway infrastructure, including the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) lines in the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the accused played a key role in channelling terror funds through offshore accounts to KZF operatives in Punjab and facilitating plans to carry out terrorist attacks aimed at disturbing peace and public order. Their deportation follows the dismantling of a terror module allegedly involved in the January 23 IED blast on the Sirhind railway track and the attempted explosion on the same track near Shambhu in Patiala on April 27. Four allegedly radicalised individuals had earlier been arrested in connection with the case.

A pro-Khalistan demonstrator was arrested after jumping onto the stage with a flag and disrupting a concert by Diljit Dosanjh in San Francisco, United States (US) on June 19. The incident briefly caused panic before venue security personnel and local police intervened, restrained the individual, and took him into custody. Dosanjh continued his performance during the disruption and resumed entertaining the audience after the protester was removed. The incident occurred amid reports of online threats and attempts by hardline pro-Khalistan elements, including supporters of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), to target Dosanjh over his appearances in mainstream Indian media.

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police on June 20 arrested four members of a gang involved in extortion and firing incidents in Jalandhar district and recovered three pistols along with live cartridges from their possession, in Jalandhar district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were acting on the directions of foreign-based handlers and were involved in planning and executing multiple firing incidents in Jalandhar and Nawanshahr districts. Police alleged that the gang had fired at the BNS Fashions showroom in Santokhpura the previous week and had demanded INR 500000 in extortion from its owner, Lakshay Verma.

Police on June 20 arrested two operatives of the Arsh Dalla gang, identified as Upjinder Singh alias Gagna and Talwinder Singh alias Happy and recovered two foreign-made pistols along with live cartridges from their possession, in Faridkot district. Preliminary investigations revealed links between the arrested duo and Navjot Singh alias Neetu, an alleged Arsh Dalla gang operative currently lodged in Central Jail, Faridkot. According to police, a production warrant has been obtained for Neetu, and further disclosures are expected during his interrogation.

Punjab Police on June 21 busted a gangster module linked to foreign-based handlers and arrested three operatives and recovered three foreign-made sophisticated pistols along with ammunition from their possession, in Amritsar district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were acting on the directions of foreign-based gangsters allegedly involved in gang wars, extortion, and other criminal activities in Punjab. Police also linked the arrested individuals to a murder case in Amritsar and an attempted murder case in Batala.

In a joint operation on June 21, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered 27 kg of heroin from the border belt near Pul Moran along the India-Pakistan International Border in the Gharinda area of Amritsar district. According to sources, the recovery was made following specific intelligence inputs indicating that Pakistani smugglers had used drones to drop the consignment in the area.
