Harjit Singh Laddi, an operative of the Khalistani terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), has claimed responsibility for the recent gunfire attack on Kapil Sharma's newly opened café in Surrey, Canada. Laddi, one of the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) most wanted terrorists, is accused of multiple violent attacks in Punjab, including the assassination of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar. The NIA has announced a reward of INR 10 lakh for information leading to his arrest. BKI, a designated terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), maintains active operations in countries such as Canada and the United Kingdom.

Harjit Singh Laddi, a Khalistani terrorist affiliated with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), who claimed responsibility for the July 9 firing at Kapil Sharma’s café in Surrey, Canada, stated in a statement that the attack was in retaliation for allegedly offensive remarks made about Nihang Sikhs on Sharma’s comedy show. Laddi claimed that a character wearing Nihang attire was mocked on the show, which was perceived as disrespectful to the community’s religious identity. He further alleged that multiple attempts to contact Sharma’s team demanding an apology went unanswered.

He accused the state government of creating an environment of fear, claiming industrialists were fleeing due to rising extortion threats.

The packet contained a copper wire loop and three illuminating sticks, indicating that it had been dropped by a drone.

On July 12, a key witness in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, Harpal Kaur Bedi, told a special court in New Delhi that she was not pressured by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Sikh leaders to name former Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Jagdish Tytler. During cross-examination, she denied fabricating her testimony or falsely implicating the accused. Bedi had earlier stated that she named Tytler only in 2016, after the death of her son, for whose safety she had previously feared. The case pertains to the killing of three Sikhs—Sardar Thakur Singh, Badal Singh, and Gurcharan Singh—at Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984. The court has listed the matter for further hearing on July 21.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, while flagging off the UP-Delhi Balidan Sandesh Yatra in Lucknow on July 12, stated that attempts were being made to create divisions between Hindus and Sikhs and urged people to remain vigilant. He referred to the arrest of Chhangur Baba in Balrampur, alleging that he operated a INR 100 crore religious conversion racket funded primarily from the Middle East. The Chief Minister also paid tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur and emphasised the continued relevance of the Sikh Gurus’ sacrifices in resisting religious oppression.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on July 12 arrested eight Khalistani terrorists, identified as Dilpreet Singh, Arshpreet Singh, Amritpal Singh, Vishal, Pavittar Singh Batala, Gurtaj Singh, Manpreet Randhawa and Sarabjit Singh, and seized 5 handguns (including a fully-automatic Glock), one assault rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and over USD 15,000 in cash from their possession, in San Joaquin County in California in the United States (US). Among those arrested was Pavittar Singh Batala, wanted in India by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his links to Khalistani terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

On July 13, Punjab Police, on day 134 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 93 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 113 drug smugglers and seized 4.2 kg of heroin, 500 grams of ganja, 120 kg of poppy husk and INR 24,210 drug money from their possession, across Punjab.

On July 14, Gurjeet Singh Khalsa, a member of the Sarb Dharam Beadbi Rokko Morcha who has been protesting atop a telecom tower in Samana, Patiala district, for over 275 days, refused to climb down until the Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scriptures Bill, 2025, is passed and receives Presidential assent. The Bill, tabled in the Punjab Assembly on July 14, proposes life imprisonment and a fine of up to INR 10 lakh for acts of sacrilege.
