Three schools in the national capital received bomb threats via email on December 10, containing references to the Khalistan movement, in New Delhi. The message read: “Aaj 12:05 PM Bo.mb Blast Hove Ga? Jhoothe Police Muqabale Khalistan Referendum Walian De In Punjab; Khalistan De Movement nu Delhi 2UN Tak Laye.” Authorities are treating the threat seriously and have advised the schools to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Ferozepur Police late on December 11 arrested gangster-turned-politician Gurpreet Singh Sekhon under Sections 7/51 of the CrPC as a preventive measure to maintain public order and lodged him at the Kulgarhi police station in Ferozepur district. Sekhon, who was released from jail two years ago, had since claimed to have left criminal activities and entered social work before later entering politics. Two of his family members are currently contesting the Zila Parishad elections as independent candidates, reportedly with the support of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

A youth with a criminal background, identified as Akash alias Golu Pandit, was shot dead by three car-borne assailants in the parking lot of the Abohar court complex in Fazilka district on December 11. According to reports, Golu Pandit, who also served as a priest at the Johari Mandir in Abohar, reached the court complex with his friend Sonu in an SUV for a hearing in an Arms Act case. As he walked toward the vehicle after his court appearance, several armed men opened fire on him. Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurmeet Singh stated that, prima facie, the killing appears to be linked to an ongoing gang rivalry. Soon after the incident, police arrested the main suspect, identified as Gagandeep Singh alias Gaggi Lahoria, along with his three accomplices—Vishu Nadha, Sushil Kumar alias Bhalu, and Aman alias Tota—in connection with the murder. Police further revealed that Sahil Kharbas of Panjkosi had allegedly issued threats to eliminate Golu over the phone.

The Amritsar Rural Police on December 11 arrested a key operative of a cross-border arms supply module, identified as Akashdeep Singh, and seized a Star-marked pistol (.30 bore), another pistol (.30 bore), a PX5 pistol (.30 bore), a Glock Gen-19 pistol (9mm), six live rounds (.30 bore), and a mobile phone from his possession, in Amritsar district. However, his co-accused, Sukha Singh, named in the case, remains absconding. According to police, the duo had been procuring large consignments of weapons through drone deliveries and supplying them to gangsters across Punjab.

The Punjab government on December 11 opposed Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament (MP) Amritpal Singh’s plea for temporary release to attend the ongoing winter session of Parliament. In its submission before the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC), the state argued that no authority could, even indirectly, “pre-clear or restrict” what an MP might say on the floor of the House. The government further contended that “once an elected representative enters Parliament, no undertaking, administrative assurance, or judicial condition can curtail his speech,” thereby opposing the grant of parole.

Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana Member of Parliament (MP) Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, speaking in the Lok Sabha on December 11, said that an atmosphere of fear was prevailing in Punjab and that no one felt safe as gangsters were ruling the roost. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Warring stated that people were receiving threat calls from jails as well as from abroad. “The state government has failed to provide safety to the people. Gangsters have entrenched themselves deep into the political system. The Shiromani Akali Dal fielded a candidate closely related to a gangster in the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election,” alleged Warring.

According to reports, Canada’s plan to deport individuals linked to British Columbia’s (BC) extortion epidemic has stalled after all the suspects referred for deportation hearings claimed refugee status. The foreign nationals were identified by BC’s Extortion Task Force, but once the Canada Border Services Agency initiated proceedings, each suspect applied for asylum. As a result, the deportation of all 14 individuals has been paused until the Immigration and Refugee Board determines the validity of their claims. The immigration enforcement agency’s spokesperson declined to comment further and did not respond to queries on whether all the suspects are Indian citizens.

Another youth from Brahampur village in Raikot in Ludhiana district has emerged as the alleged mastermind behind the three firing incidents at comedian Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café in Canada. According to Canadian police and central agencies, Sukhwinder Singh alias Seepu of Brahampur, along with two other Punjabi youths—Sharry and Diljot—has been linked to the attacks. Their names surfaced a fortnight after the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, an operative of the Goldy Dhillon gang, from Jawaddi village on the outskirts of Ludhiana on November 28.

Two Punjabi youths, identified as Gurdeep Singh and Ranbir Singh from villages near Budhlada in Mansa district, were shot dead in southeast Edmonton, Canada, in the early hours of December 12. The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said the killings appear to be targeted and has launched an investigation. The two had gone to Canada separately in search of better career opportunities. According to information shared with Gurdeep’s family by his friend Arshdeep, the youths were on their way to celebrate a friend’s birthday when unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on them.
