On October 14, 2007, Babbar
Khalsa International (BKI) militants orchestrated an explosion at the Shingaar
cinema hall in Ludhiana, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals, most of
whom were migrant laborers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and injuring 40
others. The explosion occurred at 8.50 pm. Four suspects, namely Gurpreet Singh,
Ravinder Singh alias Rinku, Sandeep Singh, and Harwinder Singh, were arrested
for their alleged involvement in the attack. Upon their arrest, the police
recovered five kilograms of RDX, three detonators, and two pistols from them.
The suspects were charged with murder, attempted murder, and violating the
Explosives Act. It was also reported that Harwinder and Gurpreet had received
training in the use of arms and explosives in Pakistan. One of the accused,
Sandeep Singh, died in Nabha jail in 2011, while the remaining three were
acquitted in 2014 due to insufficient evidence.
