According to data from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA), drug seizures by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) increased by 160% from 2014 to December 2023 compared to 2006-2013, with a 210% rise in drug-related cases. Punjab, especially districts bordering Pakistan, reported high drug and drone seizures. The government has implemented a three-point strategy, enhanced the Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) mechanism, and initiated financial investigations and prevention measures, including the use of drones, to combat illegal drug cultivation. The total value of drugs seized during this period was INR 22,000 crore, marking a significant increase from the previous period.
