On June 24, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated an investigation into the June 22 petrol bomb attack on a homoeopathic clinic located on Mela Ram Road, opposite the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Bathinda district. According to clinic owner Dr. Tarsem Garg, an NIA team comprising a Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and two inspectors visited the premises and collected details related to the incident. Reports indicate that nearly two hours after the attack, Dr. Garg’s wife, Dr. Rajni Jindal, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in the recent municipal council elections, received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number. The caller allegedly identified himself as Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzad Bhatti and subsequently sent messages introducing himself and saying “Hi”.

The investigation into the murder of Sanjay Shukla, manager of the Badopatti toll plaza on the Hisar–Sirsa National Highway in Haryana, has taken a new turn after a social media account allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the killing. Police said they are verifying the authenticity of the post and an accompanying audio clip. The post, uploaded from an account operating under the name “Anil Pandit,” alleged that Shukla was assisting a rival gang and warned of similar consequences for others supporting their “enemies.” Shukla was allegedly run over on the night of June 22 by occupants of an SUV following a dispute over toll payment.

In a major development in the six-month-old attempt-to-murder case involving Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) leader Jaswant Singh Cheema, the Khanna Police have alleged that the reported attack on him by two bike-borne armed assailants was a fabricated incident. According to the investigation, Cheema and an associate allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy and concocted the story of the murderous attack. Consequently, Cheema, who was initially the complainant in the case, has now been named as an accused. His associate has been arrested, while Cheema is reportedly absconding.

Police arrested Jaskarn Singh alias Karn, a native of Dhanaula in Barnala district, Punjab, who was residing in Noida, Uttar Pradesh (UP), and working as an AC mechanic, in connection with an extortion case in Chandigarh. The case was registered after a city jeweller reported on June 20 that he had received a threatening WhatsApp message demanding INR 5 lakh in the name of gangster Goldy Dhillon. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that financial difficulties had prompted him to devise the extortion scheme after watching videos related to the recent firing incident at a medical hall in Sector 11, Chandigarh. According to police, he obtained the mobile numbers of four jewellers through internet searches and sent threatening messages posing as a gangster associate.

Unlike conventional GPS- or radio frequency-controlled drones, these satellite-linked platforms can reportedly evade many existing anti-drone measures that rely on jamming GPS or radio signals, enabling them to operate over longer distances. Investigators believe the drones are being used to deliver consignments of heroin, sophisticated weapons, ammunition, grenades, and cash at pre-designated locations in Punjab. Local operatives linked to smuggling and terror networks are then allegedly directed to retrieve the consignments using encrypted messaging applications and precise coordinates.

Investigations further revealed that the gang was operating under the directions of a Europe-based handler, Judgebir Singh alias Karan, who is allegedly linked to foreign-based gangsters Balwinder Singh alias Doni Bal and Prabh Dasuwal. Police stated that extortion targets were identified through mobile applications and approached through associates acting on behalf of the network.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused was allegedly acting on the directions of an Australia-based associate who shared the weapon drop location through a social media application. According to BSF sources, intelligence inputs had indicated that the consignment would be collected from a drone-dropping zone and transported in a white car, prompting the deployment of multiple checkpoints and ambushes in the area.

Punjab Police has secured the deportation from Malaysia of two wanted operatives linked to the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), identified as Gurwinder Singh and Manjeet Singh, and the duo was apprehended by Punjab Police at IGI Airport in New Delhi upon arrival and subsequently brought to Punjab for further investigation. They are accused of targeting critical railway infrastructure, including the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) lines in the state. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that the accused played a key role in channelling terror funds through offshore accounts to KZF operatives in Punjab and facilitating plans to carry out terrorist attacks aimed at disturbing peace and public order. Their deportation follows the dismantling of a terror module allegedly involved in the January 23 IED blast on the Sirhind railway track and the attempted explosion on the same track near Shambhu in Patiala on April 27. Four allegedly radicalised individuals had earlier been arrested in connection with the case.

Two accused, Aryan and Sunny Mehra, arrested for the June 13 shooting at Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector 11, Chandigarh, which resulted in the death of Janki Das, were injured in a police encounter in the Dhanas area of Chandigarh district, Chandigarh during the early hours of June 18. The duo had been arrested in Jammu and Kashmir and brought to Chandigarh on the night of June 17. According to police sources, the accused allegedly attempted to escape while being escorted to the Crime Branch office near the Dhanas jungle road. Police personnel responded by opening fire, injuring both suspects. They were later admitted to the Hospital for treatment.

On June 17, the Malaysian government deported two Indian fugitives allegedly involved in the April 27 blast on the railway track in the Shambhu area of Patiala district. Upon their arrival in India, they were arrested by security agencies. Authorities did not disclose the identities of the deportees.
