The Uttarakhand special task force (STF), while probing the case of
purported threat calls made by banned pro-Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice
leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, found that he allegedly used services of a
Japanese telecommunications company to make the calls.
The Japanese firm's name came up when police contacted Indian telecom
service providers of the call recipients to enquire about its source, an STF
officer privy to the case said on Tuesday. Superintendent of police, STF, Ayush
Agrawal, told TOI, "During the probe, it was found that Pannun and his
acquaintances had used the services of 'S and BTS Global KK', a Japanese firm.”
The SP added, “Pannun availed of the services while sitting in America and sent
his recorded threat call message via Japan to recipients in India.
After tracking the company, we've written to it for further action in
our probe, but are yet to get a reply from them. We've increased our vigil
considering the possibility of such activities again during the next round of
G20 events in Uttarakhand.” Last month, days before the three-day G20 event in
Ramnagar near Nainital from March 28, some police officers, media persons and
government employees in the state received recorded calls from Pannun
threatening them against organising the summit saying, “Ramnagar is part of
Khalistan...” A photojournalist of TOI Dehradun had received the call twice on
his contact number.
